Knorr-Bremse PowerTech, an established supplier to the British rail market, recently received two major contracts from Bombardier Transportation. The company is equipping the new AVENTRA trains for London’s Elizabeth Line and the London Overground trains with an auxiliary power system consisting of a 25 kW battery charger unit, a DC distribution and a vehicle battery. Knorr-Bremse PowerTech has integrated these three components to create an intelligent management system for the 110 V DC auxiliary power supply. It features a lightweight, compact design and low noise emission. Due to its modular design the system is easily maintained.

Reliable, efficient energy supply systems are key, particularly in view of the worldwide surge in the number of railway passengers, rising energy costs and rising standards of interior vehicle comfort. The systems from Knorr-Bremse PowerTech ensure optimally managed energy consumption around the world. The company‘s portfolio of standardized and modularized on-board power converters supports all train types and performance categories. With its compact state-of-the-art technology, PowerTech occupies a leading international position.

With its extensive service program, PowerTech RailServices also provides systematic, qualified support across the entire product life cycle. The available services range from spare parts supply and repairs, to innovative upgrades for components and system modernization for existing fleets. Knorr-Bremse PowerTech supplies auxiliary converters for various refurbishment projects to Knorr-Bremse RailServices in the UK, one recent example being the Angel Trains owned, and GWR operated, Class 165/1s. These PowerTech converters have convenient diagnostic functions with optimized life cycle costs and are being produced according to the specific requirements of the modernization concept.

The visitors to Railtex Birmingham (9-11 May) will be able to see Knorr-Bremse Power- Tech’s solutions for themselves. We will be presenting our auxiliary power system for the ultra-modern AVENTRA vehicles from Bombardier Transportation. Furthermore the visitor can experience the added value of integrating our energy supply solutions into Knorr-Bremse’s Connected System concept.
